Spring Fever

PICTURE: This is a macro closeup of purple ‘filarees’ and some globular rayless (without petals) flowers.  I shot this laying flat on my stomach in the desert.  Getting back up was the hard part.

I have toured gardens throughout the U.S. and in several foreign countries.

To my astonishment I have discovered there are more flowers blooming in the desert per square meter than in Golden Gate Park Botanical Gardens, Bouchard Gardens, or even New Zealand’s Botanical Park.  Way more flowers per square meter.

And desert wildflowers bloom all year from February through October.  Waves of blooms.  Waves! Who would have thunk!

Spring Fever is a small sampling of blooms I have found within walking distance in the metropolitan deserts of Truckee Meadows.  Don’t even have to drive out of town.  Amazing.

These photos are almost all from Spring 2022.

The spectacular California  2023 Spring blooms that featured in the news for weeks definitely made it to Truckee Meadows as well – though sadly without fanfare.

But my camera caught it. I will post this spectacular Truckee Meadows event, unequalled in my dozen years here.  There will be a  Gallery as soon as I can wade through and process thousands of closeups that blew me away.
